Holiday Season

Cut down your holiday clutter to make your holidays even greener! Try not to produce excess waste and use these tips:
Holiday cards- skip traditional cards and send e-cards
Gifts- give "experiences" instead of "stuff." Show your family or friends you care with a day at a spa or by adopting an endangered animal in your loved one's name.
Holiday Lights- place your outside lights on a timer. This will help reduce your electric bill and cut down the glare in your neighbors' windows at night. An all around good idea!
Gift wrap- reuse gift wrap, bows, and bags. Use newspaper comics or colorful pages from magazines as gift wrap.
Warm Up- keep the thermostat low and put on a holiday sweater to stay cozy.

Green Appeal

Green is the buzz word. Many homeowners may be looking for ways to appeal to this home buying group. Some minor fixes may help homeowners sell closer to their asking price. These tips will help any homeowner:
-Replace regular LIGHTBULBS with compact fluorescent bulbs. They use only 1/5th the energy of regular bulbs and last about 12 times longer.
-Purchase an electronic THERMOSTAT that can be programmed to change the temperature when you are asleep or away from home.
-Energy efficient DOORS & WINDOWS help save money and look better!
-Energy efficient APPLIANCES are key. Many utility companies offer discounts on the monthly bill by purchasing a new refrigerator or washer/dryer.
-Replace the linoleum floor in the kitchen with bamboo or cork, made from a renewable source
-Switch out your shower heads and faucets to low flow fixtures

Where does your home stand on the green spectrum?
